In 1968, he formed Lifetime with John McLaughlin and others, and the group remained active—with various lineup changes—until 1972.\n\nThree years later, guitarist Allan Holdsworth—who had made his mark on the British jazz-progressive rock scene with bands like Nucleus and Tempest—ignited a new spark in Tony’s heart. Captivated by Allan during a Soft Machine performance, Tony immediately reached out to him, but since Allan was on the verge of recording *Bundles*, Tony had to wait a year for him to join. With Alan finally joining, the group formed New Lifetime with keyboardist Alan Pasqua and bassist Tony Newton. That same year, they released *New Tony Williams Lifetime (Believe It)*, followed by *Million Dollar Legs* in 1976.
