Bach's \"The Musical Offering\" from a fresh perspective. Centered on this work, it weaves in related compositions by two 20th-century composers, Victor Karabis and Yun Isan, to depict a musical dialogue transcending time. At its core are Jan de Winne (Artistic Director of the Passacaille label since 2006), a world-renowned traverso player who is also a founding member of the early music ensemble Il Gardellino, a juror for the Bruges International Early Music Competition, and an active instrument maker; and baroque violinist and harpsichordist Stanislaw Grzes, whose interpretations based on musicological research and a contemporary perspective have earned high acclaim.\n\nAs the title \"Spiegelungen (Reflections)\" suggests, the underlying concept of this work is rooted in ideas of \"reflection\" and \"symmetry.\" The theme itself is the structure in which music creates meaning by reflecting itself, as in the \"Musical Offering,\" which is constructed using a technique of counterpoint and development based on a series of canons and fugues written on a theme given by Frederick II, King of Prussia (Frederick the Great). In this context, they cite American poet T.S. Elliott's idea that \"just as the present is directed by the past, the past is changed by the present,\" presenting a view of art in which new works can change the position of past works.
