She studied with Shostakovich at the Leningrad Conservatory, but later thoroughly rejected his influence, and while she taught composition for 30 years, she also wrote works at the behest of the Soviet authorities, the essence of which are her five symphonies and other unconventional works. Rejecting existing rules and expectations, she called her works \"music from a black hole\": she disliked bar lines, emphasized each note as if in prayer, and favored ostinatos and extreme range and intensity. Her works were not performed for a long time, and finally attracted attention in the West in her later years, and have been performed more often since her death. This album contains her five symphonies. The first, the only one with a full orchestra, is characterized by ominous repetitions and the recitation of poems by boys. Ustvolskaya said, \"I denied political content and treated the voices as tonal material,\" and the music that accompanies the poems, which speak of fear and cruelty, also has romantic overtones.Nos. 2 through 4 use texts by the 11th-century monk Hermanus Contractus and pursue a prayer-like solo voice and ascetic sound while reducing the size of the orchestration. The final work, No. 5, a short work for six instruments and voices, is the culmination of her symphonic writing, punctuated with gruesome cries and anguish.\n\nChristiane Carlsen studied at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague and in London with John Carrewe. She began her career as an assistant to Esa-Pekka Salonen, and in addition to performing with many prominent orchestras, she has been active in contemporary music, actively premiering works by many composers. On this album, he brings together a unique group of players for a wonderful performance. Sergey Melkushev, who delivers a unique narrative, is a renowned actor who has been active since 1993. He is active mainly in Sweden and has participated in stage productions such as \"The Jail\" and \"The Girl Who Sold Matches.\n\nNaxos Japan","brand":"BIS","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51929213436193,"sku":"4589538826123","price":21.0,"currency_code":"CHF","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538826123.jpg?v=1760870537","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-ch\/products\/4589538826123","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
