The way Jansons reads the complete score down to the smallest detail and painstakingly creates the sound is as usual. The expressive power of the first movement, with its impressive, crisp low strings, the skill with which he makes the beautiful melody of the second movement sing, and the propulsive sound of the Scherzo, which is very characteristic of Bruckner, are exceptional. The final movement climaxes with a variety of motives, and the appearance of the first theme of the first movement at the end is truly a masterpiece of Jansons.
