Incidentally, the historic district of Stralsund (and Wismar) is registered as a World Heritage site. The organ in St. Jacobi Church was built by Christian Gottlieb Richter in 1741, and was renovated and expanded by the Berlin organ builder Ernst Marx between 1779 and 1783. Although it has undergone subsequent renovations, the internal mechanism has been well preserved as it was in 1741, and the 2017-2020 restoration has brought the Baroque organ back to life. There have been many cases in Germany (especially in East Germany) where outdated Baroque organs have been revived after German reunification, and the organ in St. Jacobi Church in Stralsund has a very nice sound. Martin Rost, born in 1963, is a German organist. After studying at the Felix Mendelssohn University of Music and Stage in Leipzig, he was organist of the concert hall of the Carl Philipp Emanuel University in Frankfurt (Oder), and has been organist at St. Mary's Church in Stralsund since 1997.
