From Andrée to Brangier, all the pieces are released for the first time in the world with the help of treasured broadcast recordings! To commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, a 14-CD box set compiled with the full cooperation of the orchestra is now available. The box contains 14 discs compiled with the full cooperation of the orchestra, and all of the recordings are from the archives of the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation and the Tonhalle Orchestra. The first chief conductor of the Tonhalle Orchestra, Friedrich Hager, left no recordings, but Volkmar Andreae, who succeeded Hager as chief conductor in 1906 and made the Tonhalle Orchestra famous in the first half of the 20th century, conducted Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 in 1942 during World War II. The program covers the great performances of successive chief conductors\/artistic directors, beginning with the historical record of No. 7 and ending with the current Lionel Brangier's Berlioz \"Fantasie\". Catching the eye is Rudolf Kempe's Beethoven \"Fate\" from 1968. This live performance is three years before the famous 1971 Tuder\/exlibris disc. Both of Zinman's two pieces have excellent session recordings on RCA, but included in this box are live performances of Zinman's Tonhalle debut (Home Symphony) and principal retirement concert (Mahler's \"Resurrection\"). Also included are performances by Erich Schmidt, Hans Rosboud, Hiroshi Wakasugi, and Gerd Albrecht, for which no formal session recordings survived. Christoph Eschenbach, who recorded two CDs worth of music for CBS Sony in Japan, performs a rare live performance of Busoni's great piano concerto with the virtuoso Boris Bloch (the first time Eschenbach performed this repertoire). ■And what's most impressive is that it includes a number of great performances by famous conductors who have recently appeared as guest conductors at the Tornhalle.Blomstedt's Bruckner \"Ninth\" (2014 = three years after the Querstand disc with the Gewandhaus Orchestra), Haitink's Bruckner \"Fifth\" (2009 = the year before the BR-Klassik disc with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra), Maazel's Dvořák \"New World\" (2002 ), Dutoit's Saint-Saëns \"Organ\" (2014), Salonen's Sibelius \"Fifth\" (2015), and Jonathan Nott's Haydn \"No. 44\" (2009).It is also intriguing that the Beethoven \"First\" (1997 = between the complete 18th century orchestra Philips and Glossa) conducted by France Bruchen, who had quite a close relationship with the Tornhalle in his later years, is also included ■ Because of the Swiss orchestra, Albert Melsinger, The most interesting of all is Otmar Scheck's great work \"Penthesilea\" conducted by Gerd Albrecht, who is a master of this work and has released a live recording of it from the Salzburg Festival in 1982. The recording will include Schumann's Symphony No. 4, in which the composer Scheck took the podium. ■Includes a 48-page color booklet. Each disc will be sealed in a paper jacket and housed in a cardboard lift-of box.
