He studied under Max Reger at the Leipzig Conservatory in Germany and achieved sensational success in 1927 with his opera \"Švanda the Bagpipe Blower.\" However, he was exiled to the United States due to persecution by the Nazis during World War II, and he was one of the sad composers who took his own life out of poverty and illness, as his works were never accepted. This album contains works written around the 1930s, and between \"Six Bohemian Songs and Dances,\" which makes the most of simple Czech folk songs, and the stately \"Passacaglia,\" a true late Romantic piece, one can catch a glimpse of Weinberger searching for his own style. Recorded by the Deutsches Symphonieorchester Berlin under the baton of Gerd Albrecht in 2002\/2002.
