A collection of works by G.B. Vitali, a 17th century Italian composer who served at the Court of Este! Tactus, a long-established label from Bologna, Italy, presents an interesting recording project to uncover the works of G.B. Vitali. Modena, Italy was the capital of the Duchy of Modena-Reggio, which was ruled by the Este family at the time. Duke Francesco II, who was also a violin enthusiast, produced a wide variety of music, and his rich musical heritage is preserved in the Estense Library. The works of Giovanni Battista Vitari (1632-1692), music director at the Court of Este (his son Tommaso Antonio Vitari was also a composer), were chosen as the first step to promote this heritage to the world, and the "Vitari Edition" of the works on six CDs The "Vitari Edition" will release recordings of the works on six CDs. Volume 4 is a collection of 12 sonatas, Op. 5, each named after an important noble family in the Modena area, and each sonata is diverse in composition and style, and is thought to have been composed in association with the character and characteristics of the actual noble family.Italico Splendore is an ancient music ensemble led by brothers Alessandro Andriani, artistic director (former cellist of Europa Galante) and Claudio Andriani, first violinist and conductor.
