The fourth release on the BIS label is \"Stained Glass,\" featuring Ravel's Violin Sonata in G major, Lili Boulanger's Nocturne, Prokofiev's Sonata No. 2, and a small piece by Poland's Grażyna Bacewicz (1909-1969), beginning with Pärt's \"Flatres\" and continuing with Ravel's Violin Sonata in G major. Each composer has her own musical language, but Darlene is ambitious enough to find common ground in it, and following \"Nordic Rhapsody\" (BIS SA-2560), she is joined by Christian Ihle Hadran. Bacewicz was the first internationally known Polish female composer. Born into a musical family, she was herself a violinist and studied with the great violinist Carl Flesch.He studied composition with Kazimierz Sikorski at the Warsaw Conservatory and with Nadia Boulanger at the Ecole Normale. He wrote five violin sonatas, but Darlene includes four smaller pieces. As a violinist composer, he skillfully incorporates various techniques such as pizzicato and flageolet to colorfully sound a fantastic world. Robert von Bahr, owner of the Swedish BIS label, has discovered many young talents, including Evgeny Sudobin and Alexander Kantorov. One such young talent is Johan Dahlene, whose talent has been noticed since he was 9 years old.
