Just thinking about it brings to mind a divine sound. Give it a listen starting with Track 1. It is indeed a majestic and dazzling flood of sound that lives up to all expectations. While the melody used is the familiar chorale composed by Philip Nicolai (the same piece used in Bach’s “I Hear a Voice Calling, ‘Awake’”), the way it gradually transforms into modern harmonies surely reminds us that this is, after all, a work by a contemporary composer. Gardner, a native of Manchester, studied at the University of Wellington and the University of Oxford. He began his career as a composer after Barbirolli discovered his “Symphony No. 1” (included on NAXOS 8.570406), a work he had conceived while serving as a military bandmaster. While he has written many choral works, he is also known for creating spectacular music—reminiscent of film scores—that spans a variety of genres.\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Toccata Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":53595658060065,"sku":"5060113440488","price":31.0,"currency_code":"CAD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/5060113440488.jpg?v=1790482152","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-ca\/products\/5060113440488","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
