In the 2018\/19 season, András Schiff will give a master class at the Verbier Festival. In this album titled \"La Danse,\" she begins with two baroque pieces. The opening piece, Rameau, is a simple gavotte that changes form one after another, and Bartlett's sharp touch adds ornaments as the melody emerges. The mysterious title of \"The Mysterious Barrier,\" the most well-known of Couperin's Klavsin pieces, is also a taste of the elegance that emerges from the convulsive sound shapes.In \"Couperin's Tomb,\" which borrows from baroque musical forms but also pays tribute to Ravel's friends, Bartlett captures the listener's ear from the flowing Prelude and concludes the entire piece with a resolute Toccata. And from the works of Reynaldo Arn, whose 150th birthday will be celebrated in 2024, two pieces from \"The Untied Ribbon\" are presented. The virtuoso Alexandre Tharaud joins him to perform two waltzes, the slightly melancholy \"Capricious Flirtation with Fate\" and the vivacious \"Twilight in Albi,\" both clad in gorgeous sound. Following Debussy's \"Arabesque\" and Ravel's \"Pavane for a departed princess,\" both of which are delivered in a quiet manner, the album closes with the stunning \"La Valse.\" This is a disc where the spirit of French music and Bartlett's beautiful sound can be fully appreciated.
