Also included is a performance of Francis Poulenc's arrangement of the Third Gnossienne, conducted by Michel Plasson.\n\nErik Satie holds a special place in the history of French music. Some considered him a \"crook,\" others a \"pioneer of avant-garde music\" and \"a remarkable forerunner of Surrealism. A colorful, humorous, yet solitary man, he was the pianist at the \"Chateau Noir\" club in Montmartre. He was a man of fiery temperament, often provoking prolonged feuds, which also affected Debussy and Ravel. Satie herself described herself as \"a composer of musical furniture who came to the world very young and very old.\n\nHe began his studies at the Paris Conservatory but never completed them. His teachers criticized Satie's preference for pursuing his own musical style over practicing the piano. Eventually he began to lead a bohemian lifestyle, frequenting the cabarets of Paris. There he was introduced as \"Erik Satie - a gymnopedist. The word \"gymnopédie\" means \"naked dancing. Shortly thereafter, in 1888, he composed three short piano pieces called \"Gymnopedies.\n\nAccording to Poulenc, Satie loved the piano, but his playing skills were mediocre. His piano works are vast and reflect the many facets of his art, from Classicism to the hazy sounds of Impressionism, from barroom piano music to mystical elements. From the earliest small pieces to the music hall echoes of \"La Belle Exantrique,\" a \"serious fantasy,\" his piano works are relatively short, with enigmatic instructions regarding tempo and dynamics, and strange titles.Satie said sarcastically, \"For the mediocre, flabby, or bloated person, my music would not be enjoyable at all.\n\nJean Cocteau described Satie's music as \"like walking around naked.\" Without losing the poetic element or the humor of his half-serious, half-joking parodies, his style never flaunts technique, eschews mannerisms, and sometimes ventures into polytonality (polytonality) with bold use of harmony. Satie wittily remarked, \"Even if the deaf cannot enjoy music, their inability to speak is no reason to despise it.\"\n\nReleased in limited quantities as a 140g analog LP vinyl record.\n\nWarner Music Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Erato","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":51431694434593,"sku":"5021732618832","price":45.0,"currency_code":"CAD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/5021732618832.jpg?v=1751196146","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-ca\/products\/5021732618832","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
