S.: Piano Concerto No. 3 - Japan CD

Credits:

Boris Giltburg,Royal Scottish National Orchestra

Description:

Boris Giltburg showed brilliant technique and thoughtful interpretation in the Piano Concerto No. 2. In this third concerto, too, Giltburg gives an extremely individual performance. More difficult to play than No. 2, No. 3 is peppered throughout with improvisatory phrases and ever-changing moods, but when played to perfection, there is no piece that is more effective. Giltburg studied this piece thoroughly, and the role of the theme that appears at the beginning of the piece is to "bring the whole together," and by playing it calmly, he gives the entire piece a sense of balance. The cadenza in the second half of the first movement is another highlight of the piece. Giltburg, of course, plays the "difficult version" with ease, and he captures the hearts of the listeners. He also pointed out the connection between this piece and "All Night Prayer," Op. 37. This is also an interesting interpretation. The "Variations on a Theme by Corelli," also recorded at the same time, shows us a variety of worlds as the variations progress.
