Its chaotic atmosphere—which includes monophonic chants and folk-style dance tunes—truly captures the essence of the Middle Ages. Tonus Peregrinus is a British ensemble that has already recorded medieval works from Naxos, as well as for Hyperion and other labels.\n\nAdam de la Halle, known as “the Hunchback,” was the most famous composer of the late 13th century, and *The Play of Robin and Marion*—his greatest musical legacy—is the world’s first opera.
