Sayaka Shoji, who had the opportunity to experience period instruments and their techniques while studying at the University of Cologne, but did not have enough time to research them at the time, says that she had hoped to one day take a closer look at them. She has been reading research books on 18th-century music. The result of this research is the present series, which uses gut strings and classical bows. Together with the fortepiano played by Cascioli, they give a lively and beautiful performance, making full use of their extended tone and supple expression.\n\n\n\nFrom the Performer\n\nWhen I first performed with Cascioli in 2009, I remember intuitively that I wanted to play Mozart with him someday.\n\nSince then, we have played mainly Beethoven first, which has been a truly exciting experience.Because I have found partners who are actually willing to incorporate rubato, tempo changes within a movement, inequality of sound, and other things that I have wanted to do since I was a child but was forbidden to do, but which were recommended in research books from the 18th century.\n\nThe knowledge I have gained from the many history books I started reading in college and was able to finish during the pandemic actually provides some answers. I believe that today's truth for me is the most important. Today's truth may change in the next year.\n\nBut the main pillar remains the same.\n\nI don't believe there is a right performance and a wrong performance. But as a growing performer, you don't want to automatically imitate what you are used to hearing or what you have heard somewhere else. Performance is always a new creation, and you must be honest with yourself and take responsibility for each choice of interpretation. On top of that, it is important to be respectful of what comes out of the air at that moment.\n\nIn other words, I do not believe that playing on a period instrument is the most important thing. I am often asked about chin pads, shoulder pads, etc., but I am not a baroque violin expert.Classical bows are easier to articulate and express with their hierarchy of sounds, and the use of raw gut strings is mainly because of the beauty of their sound, which I practiced obsessively during the pandemic.\n\nTherefore, I do not intend to justify the use of different instruments.\n\nI am recording the complete Mozart cycle with the sole intention of conveying Mozart's drama, subtle emotion and humor, and the music in his blood. We would be more than happy to share with you our excitement about the variations in repetition and the cadenzas of the fermatas. ---- Sayaka Shoji\n\nNaxos Japan\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Arcana","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":50865319313697,"sku":"4589538818739","price":34.0,"currency_code":"CAD","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/4589538818739.jpg?v=1742718764","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-ca\/products\/4589538818739","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
