Japanese-American musician, DJ, co-founder of the Portage Garage Sounds label, and longtime Ghostly International artist, producer\/composer Zach Saginaw, has released Shigeto's 2017 masterpiece, \" The New Monday\", his first new release since The New Monday! A stunningly pleasing work that pays homage to the traditions of Lectronic, Jazz, R\u0026amp;B, and Hip-Hop! With a bold and deliberately cultivated band sound with his trusted associates, his signature fusion is more vibrant than ever, paying homage to electronic, jazz, R\u0026amp;B, and hip-hop traditions. Zach Saginaw, his guests, and a group of players present a snapshot of a celebration of self-love and vitality rooted in Detroit and learned from his family's cultural history. 'I am a cherry baby,' he says. We are all cherry babies. We are all resilient and growing. His middle name, \"Shigeto,\" which he inherited from his great-grandfather, means \"growing up. For Lineage (GI-148, 2012), Saginaw tackled an ancestral story. The artwork contrasts his great-grandfather's home in Hiroshima in 1916 with photographs later taken at the Amache internment camp in Grenada, Colorado, where he and his family were sent during World War II. Saginaw draws inspiration from the cherry trees that bloom each spring in Hiroshima, an enduring image of hope, resilience, and renewal. He has been searching for this for a long time. The simmering introspection surfaced in recent years, when the nightlife has slowed down and Sigeto has begun to question his idea of himself as a performer and Michigan icon. He is not considered \"Japanese or Caucasian. I think Sziget was a means for me to have this identity, to create an identity that I could cling to.That realization led him back to himself, to his craft and community, and laid the groundwork for a record that would rise anew from the ashes. That sense of reaffirmation of self, momentum, and maturity is evident in this work, in which Saginaw, as songwriter and producer, arranges ideas with some of Detroit's finest. All tracks are collaborations with vocalists and multi-instrumentalists, a tradition fostered in his Portage Garage studio sessions.\" It's the first time I've been able to write my own music and get players that make it even better. ...... Without them, it would have been impossible to make it at this level.\" The production and mixing is conscious of the psychedelic and jazz records of the 70's and 80's. The full, throwback quality of the music avoids modern compression and adds more spacious dynamics.
