The symphonies of Mendelssohn, a precocious genius, are usually performed with a full-size orchestra, but Wittmann believes that \"the works of the early Romantic period can be approached with a chamber orchestra,\" and this Mendelssohn is performed based on that concept. Bridging the two symphonies is Wittmann's own \"Little Concerto,\" a work that demands superb trumpet technique.
