In all of them, the influence of great predecessors is clearly evident; for example, traces of the counterpoint of Handel and J.S. Bach can be recognized in the No. 3 and No. 4. Furthermore, in the Ninth, which has reached a high level of maturity in nearly every respect, it is particularly interesting to hear a scherzo based on a Swiss folk song, followed by a finale that anticipates the music of his own *A Midsummer Night’s Dream*. As always, the music performed by Fai and his ensemble sounds fresh. At times, they take a bold, radical approach, while at other times, the beauty of the andante passages captivates the listener.
