Beginning with the best-known piano concerto in D major by Haydn, the master of the Classical period, the album also includes a concerto for violin and piano with Stephanie Gonley, the first violin of the Nash Ensemble and concertmaster of the English and Scottish Chamber Orchestras. The concerto for violin and piano is recorded at the same time. Also included is a piano concerto in G major, a work composed in the year of Mozart's birth and rarely performed today, but lyrical and moving in its beauty. The second movement of this piece has no cadenza, so a cadenza has been introduced by Cyprian Katsaris, following Haydn's style, and is one of the highlights of the concerto.
