Italian composer Giuseppe Gazzaniga (1743 - 1818) is best known for his opera \"Don Giovanni,\" which is said to have influenced Mozart's opera of the same name. It is said that the author of the libretto, Da Ponte, studied Gazzaniga's operas and wrote the libretto for \"Don Giovanni\" based on them. Another of Gazzaniga's operas that enjoyed great success is the opera buffa \"L'Isola d'Alcina\" (The Island of Alcina), which is being released this time. First performed in Venice in 1772, it quickly became very popular. The libretto is by Giovanni Bertati and is based on Ludovico Ariosto's epic poem \"Orlando furioso\" (The mad Orlando).
