Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia in 1941, violinist and violist Jaime Laredo began his musical career at the age of five, entering North America in 1948 to study with Antonio DeGrasse and Frank Hauser. He later moved to Cleveland, where he studied with Josef Gingold in 1953, and then with Ivan Galamian at the Curtis Institute of Music. He also took private lessons with Pablo Casals and George Szell, winning the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in 1959, which brought him international attention, and a recital at Carnegie Hall in October 1960, which was acclaimed as a passionate and sophisticated performance, In 1961, she appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Since then, he has performed with major orchestras around the world.
