Danish guitarist Jakob Bro, now 36 years old (2015), makes his first ECM leader album! Cheek, Thomas Morgan, Ben Street, Mark Turner, Craig Taborn, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Andrew D'Angelo, Chris Speed, George Garzone, Oscar Noriega, David Virelles, etc. Having worked with Virelles and others, Bro first appeared at ECM on Paul Motian's 2014 album "Garden of Eden" and later on Tomasz Stanko's "Dark Eye" in 2009.The melodies he creates, the colors of his sound, and the atmosphere he creates are so rich that even his ballads, which seem to wander through the air, are very free. According to Danish journalist Ib Skovgaard, "When Jakob Bro plays guitar, the air is clear. His music transcends genres. There is a melodic clarity that Bro always explores in his songs, and it is consistent." Thomas Morgan, the trio's bassist, was born in California in 1981 and is 33 years old. He has played with Tomasz Stanko's New York Quartet, piano trios such as Craig Taborn and Masaaki Kikuchi, David Virelles' Mboko Bro says, "Thomas Morgan is my musical soulmate.As for Norwegian drummer Jon Christensen, the most veteran of the group and a familiar face to ECM fans, "The drummer in my first band was a big fan of Jon's and played me a lot of his records. I immediately realized that Jon's drumming was very unique and special, and he has been one of my influences since the beginning of my musical career," said Bro. Gefion is a Danish goddess of Norse mythology, and is especially revered in Denmark.
