Based on the manga "Ongaku Kanzen" (Music Complete) by Hiroyuki Ohashi, a popular manga artist whose works include "City Lights" (Kodansha) and "Natsu no Te" (Gentosha). This is an odd rock tale that begins when a group of delinquent students who have never even touched a musical instrument form a band on a whim. It took over seven years to produce the film, with over 40,000 hand-drawn pictures. To dynamically recreate the climactic outdoor festival scene, a stage was actually built and musicians and audience members were mobilized for the live performance. This feature-length animation project was unprecedented in the mainstream animation production industry, where the division of labor and computer graphics production are the norm. In addition, a rotoscoping technique was used to trace the movements of the live-action film. This method makes the movements of the characters more realistic and vivid. The animated film "Ongaku" was released in Shinjuku Musashino Theater and other theaters in January 2020 and became an unprecedented blockbuster hit for a single theater film, drawing more than 40,000 viewers.■Acclaimed at the world's three major animation film festivals! Won the Grand Prix in the Feature Length Competition at the 43rd Ottawa International Animation Film Festival. This is the second time in Japanese animation history that a Japanese animation film has won the Grand Prix, following "The Night is Short and the Walking Girl" directed by Masaaki Yuasa. It also won the Best Original Music Award in the Feature Film Competition at the Annecy International Animated Film Festival 2020. It was the only Japanese film to win this award. It took over 7 years to produce, with over 40,000 drawings, all hand-drawn, and the entire film using rotoscoping to trace the movements of live action. This animation film was completed with the passion and persistence of the director, Kenji Iwaisawa.
