After the war ended, she became a diplomat's wife and was on a ship to Brazil. There she meets a woman, \"Marta,\" who has the appearance of a woman who was sent to the gas chambers in the concentration camps. Recalling the nightmarish life she lived in those days, Lisa's mentality gradually changes and she is tormented by visions of the past. The experiences of Posmuisi, the author of this story who barely survived the concentration camps, must have been very painful for Weinberg, who lost his entire family to persecution. With Shostakovich's advice, he wrote the opera in one year. After his death, it was staged in Moscow in concert form 10 years later, and in 2010, it was finally performed for the first time in the world at the Bregenz Festival. This video is a recording of the performance at the Graz Opera House in 2021. Nadja Loszky's direction sets the entire stage in dark gray and carefully depicts the intense emotions and conflicts that arise in the hearts of Lisa, a former Auschwitz guard, and Marta, a Polish prisoner, on a liner on their way to Brazil. The intense timpani playing at the beginning of the piece foreshadows a tumultuous story, and Kaiser's expressive singing of Lisa's sudden descent into madness is a must-hear.Lothar Kurtig, music director of the Graz Opera House from 2020, is a conductor who specialized in contemporary music in the 1990s at the Kammerammer Ensemble Neue Musik Berlin. The entire performance is seamlessly organized.
