Although he is said to have been self-taught in composition, he wrote music in almost all genres and contributed greatly to the development of modern Spanish music. The album includes piano sonatas and chamber music, including \"The Misty Visitor,\" commissioned by the Mexican Academy of Fine Arts in 1981 at the age of 81 and inspired by the Spanish Romantic poet Gustavo Adolfo Becker. It is written for flute and piano. The Piano Sonata is an interesting blend of poetic sentiment and Latin rhythms in a sprightly work written at a time of great maturity.
