Since winning the first prize at the Franz Liszt International Competition in 2014, Mariam Batashvili has earned a reputation as a \"Liszt specialist. Her first album, \"Liszt, Chopin: Piano Works,\" describes her as \"a natural expression of her technical skills, her ability to interpret Liszt and his grandeur, but it is his inner sense, his covetous and casual poetry that made her stand out as remarkable. \"Her previous album, released in 2019 Mariam Batashvili, in which she juxtaposed the works of two 19th century geniuses, Liszt and Chopin, and explored their relationship, while also showcasing her own superb technique and high musicianship. In this album, she explores the world of transcription (arrangement) even more deeply, focusing on Liszt's works, which are her strongest suit. It is easy to fall into the trap of emphasizing too much glamour when performing Liszt's works and missing what lies beneath.This is especially true of the transcriptions of operas and songs that Liszt favored, and there is a danger of merely pursuing \"superficial technique. In this case, Batashvili's emphasis was on making the piano sing, thereby avoiding artificiality as much as possible. The album opens with Franck's \"Prelude, Fugue and Variations in B minor,\" which Liszt loved so much that he had already arranged it for piano by Harold Bauer. Although it is for piano, the sound is so full that it recalls the sound of an organ echoing in a church. Then, after a transcription by Thalberg, who was regarded as Liszt's rival, we can enjoy Liszt's dazzling and skillfully crafted arrangement of the piece. The album also features waltzes by Liszt, Schubert, and Chopin in their original form, introducing a wide variety of waltzes from the 19th century. Gounod's \"Faust Waltz,\" arranged by Liszt, is a lively melody that is further enlivened by Batashvili's vivid performance.Japanese language commentary includes a Japanese translation of a conversation between John Transky and Maryam Batashvili about the album, written by Yudai Majima.\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Warner Classics","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":45558219211041,"sku":"4943674362905","price":104.0,"currency_code":"BRL","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/products\/4943674362905.jpg?v=1687534802","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-br\/products\/4943674362905","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
