Description:

Bruckner, who worked as an organist at Linz Cathedral, began composing the "Symphony No. 1" in 1865 while playing the organ, completed it the following year, and gave its premiere in 1868. After the premiere, Bruckner made several revisions to the symphony, and after the completion and revision of Symphony No. 8, he made a major revision of the symphony from 1890 to 1891. The first performance of this manuscript was given by the Vienna Philharmonic conducted by Richter on December 13, 1891. Although the number is "No. 1," the style of the piece has changed considerably from the so-called "Linz manuscript" revised in 1877, even though it has the same theme, because it was revised in the later years of his life. The tempo setting, which takes advantage of the long and beautiful reverberations of St. Florian's Abbey Church, allows the audience to fully enjoy this magnificent performance in high sound quality.
