He was one of the co-founders of the French clarinet school and one of the most popular players of his time. He was also a renowned teacher and wrote many etudes and chamber works for his students. This album contains three clarinet concertos he composed with Johann Christoph Vogel, a German composer who lived in Paris at the time. The music, which makes full use of brilliant technique, will remind you of the elegant Parisian scenery of this period. Also included is a symphony by Vogel, whose talent was highly praised by Salieri. The unexpectedly dramatic music shows that Vogel had mastered the cutting-edge style of the time.
