A live collection including stereo recordings from 1954~1957!

Horenstein was born in Ukraine in 1898 and moved to Vienna as a child. He received his musical education in Vienna and studied with Schreker. Before the age of 30, he recorded Bruckner's Symphony No. 7 with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. He was also appointed director of the Düsseldorf Opera House. However, because he was Jewish, his activities were restricted by the rise of Nazi Germany, so he left Europe and became an American citizen. After World War II, he returned to the European musical scene. He reunited with the Berlin Philharmonic, with whom he performed Mahler's Fifth at the 1961 Edinburgh Festival. However, he never held a position in any particular orchestra, and he was always a guest conductor, which is why there are so many recordings of his music on different labels. The core of the repertoire is Bruckner and Mahler. The orchestra's ability to perform these large, intricate works without neglecting details and without losing scale is well appreciated by many listeners. The Venezuelan Symphony Orchestra is a prestigious orchestra that Furtwängler also conducted. The orchestra's handmade, rustic sound is perfect for Horenstein's romantic expression. Recently, Beethoven and Bruckner by Chivas have been the talk of the town. With the cooperation of Mr. Chibas, we have unearthed previously unreleased live recordings of Horenstein. The sound quality is excellent, probably due to the richness of the orchestra's finances, and the 1957 performances are all in stereo. The 1957 performances are all in stereo, making this an astonishing release at a very special price. The liner notes are by Derik Barker, a leading Horenstein scholar.
