Influenced not only by Joni Mitchell and Becca Stevens, but also by Brazilian tropicarismo/tropicália, we are treated to the 2019 debut release from Luah, a trio from Cologne, Germany that works with a musicality that crosses folky pop, jazz, and Brazilian music. The ensemble's guitar, percussion, and three-voice vocalization are beautiful. It is truly a group that shares the same sonic orientation as Tillery, which Becca Stevens formed with Gretchen Parlato and Rebecca Martin. The group's music has the essence of bossa nova, and it is a group that should be listened to not only by jazz fans but also by Brazilian music fans. The name of the group, Luah, means "moon" in Portuguese, and Elsa Johanna Mohr, the main songwriter of the group, added the "h" in her own name to the feminine noun Lua.
