The 19th volume of the Lucerne Festival Series features Karajan's early live recordings (1952-1957), including Beethoven's No. 6 \"Rural\" \u0026amp; No. 8, Brahms' Violin Concerto (Mirshtein), Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 (Casadosch), and more! The 19th release in the Lucerne Festival Series, the first master release on the acclaimed audite label, is a collection of Herbert von Karajan's early live recordings from the Lucerne Festival. The entire recording, with the exception of J.S. Bach's Concerto No. 2 for two keyboards (released on KKC-6462 \/ AU-95650, the 17th release of the same series), is an astonishing collection of previously unreleased, official first-ever recordings! These are rare recordings from the period when Karajan was rebuilding his career, with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (1952, 1955, 1957) and the Philharmonia Orchestra (1956).Herbert von Karajan was one of the Lucerne Festival's most famous artists, appearing a total of nine times in the 40 years between 1948 and 1988 with the Swiss Festival Orchestra (Lucerne Festival Orchestra), Philharmonia Orchestra, Vienna Symphony Orchestra and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, In 1946, before his first post-World War II concert with the Vienna Philharmonic, Karajan was banned from performing publicly because of his wartime membership in the Nazi party. The Lucerne International Music Festival (now the Lucerne Festival) was the first festival outside of Austria to invite Karajan to perform, and was an important stage that encouraged his return as an international conductor. Karajan later confessed, \"I will always be indebted to this festival. The surviving recordings include Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, and Honegger. The exciting, rhythmic, and tight interpretations show Karajan to be a truly expressive conductor while remaining faithful to the score of each work.He also excels at swinging concertos and is a sensitive yet extremely present accompanist to Anda \u0026amp; Haskil's Bach, Milschtein's Brahms, and Casadosch's Mozart. In addition to the excellence of the performances, audite (which merged with the Fermate label in 2000) is celebrating the label's 50th anniversary this year (2023) with a superb reissue. The label's owner, Mr. Rutger Beckenhoff, has carefully remastered the recordings. The booklet includes many photos of the festival, which are included for the first time in this edition. It is a very welcome release of this historically important concert, which is not only of great documentary value, but also of great historical significance.
