The young Yo-Yo's brilliant first unaccompanied recording, now available on 3 LPs (picture vinyl). Yo-Yo Ma, the greatest cellist of our time, has recorded Bach: Unaccompanied three times, which is said to be the Old Testament for cellists. This is the first recording made by Yo-Yo Ma in his mid-twenties, and this anniversary project commemorates the 40th anniversary of its first release in 1983. New liner notes by producer Richard Einhorn are also included. Richard Einhorn also worked on Gould's Goldberg Variations (1981). Yo-Yo said in an interview that this piece was so important to him that his father, who was a musician, taught him to play two bars of it every day from the age of four, and he still plays it every morning. This first recording brought Yo-Yo his first Grammy Award. The 3LP Collector's Edition reissue features a newly designed jacket photo of Yo-Yo Ma, who was in his mid-twenties at the time, with a never-before-seen photograph of himself.It will also include a new essay written by recording producer Richard Einhorn.
