The Pentatone OXINGALE Series, a joint project between the Pentatone label and Canada's Oxingale Records label, is now underway. For the first release, cellist Matt Haimovitz and pianist Christopher O'Reilly, two of Oxingale Records' signature artists, have recorded Beethoven's complete works for cello and piano. The recordings were made on a fortepiano, and the cello was played on Haimowitz's beloved Goffriller (1710) with gut strings, tuned and tuned at A'=430 Hz, in pursuit and study of the sound of the period in which the music was composed.Haimovitz and O'Reilly's steady technique and sharp performances make this a new masterpiece in the cycle, and Pentatone's high-quality recording makes it highly recommended for audiophiles. He made his sensational recording debut for Deutsche Grammophon in 1988 with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Levine. In 1999, he was awarded a recording with his own label, Oxingale Records, and has since gone on to perform a wide variety of music ranging from baroque to contemporary, as well as genre-defying jazz and rock.
