Description:

Completed in 1905, Rimsky=Korsakov's fourteenth and second-to-last opera, "The Tale of the Invisible Town of Keytezh and Saint Fevoronya," combines the story of Keytezh, a town sunk to the bottom of a lake to escape a Tatar attack, and Saint Fevoronya, a saint who can communicate with animals The story combines the tale of Keategi, a town sunk to the bottom of a lake to escape a tatar attack, and the story of Fevronja, a saint who can communicate with animals. The biography of Saint Fevronya of Moulom, written in the 6th century and highly regarded as a document of Russian syncretism, combines this biography with pantheistic folk tales and Christian miracles to create a mystical story. Rimsky-Korsakov's beautiful melodies, imbued with a strong patriotic sentiment, have been performed throughout Russia's changing history. The work is also known as "Russia's Parsifal" and will be performed in Italy in 2008. The beautiful costumes and stage are just a few of the many highlights of this video. Naxos Japan
