Dowland / Robinson / Johnson / Ba

SACD hybrid disc of works by Jan Antonin Rosie performed by lute virtuoso Jacob Lindberg. Swedish lutenist Jakob Lindberg has one of the widest repertoires in the field of lute music today, focusing on Renaissance and Baroque music, and has won acclaim and popularity for his emotionally rich music supported by deep intelligence. This album follows "Night Songs - From Dowland to Britten" (BIS SA 2082), in which Britten's "Night Songs by John Dowland" is performed on the lute. The album features four suites, "Menuettes" and "Chaconne" from the works of Jan Antonin Logie, known as "Count Logie". Jan Antonijn Logie (c.1650-1721), "Count Rosintal" (Johann Anton Logie von Rosintal), was born into a noble family in Bohemia. As a child, he was taught to play the lute by Akazius Kazimir Hülse, which sparked his interest. He studied philosophy at Charles Ferdinand University in Prague. After earning his doctorate, he traveled around Europe.Rosy studied French and Italian lute music, and was renowned as one of the finest lutenists and composers in Bohemia. He is said to have influenced the German luthier Weiss, who, after Logie's death in Prague in 1721, wrote "Tombow on the Death of Count Logie" in his memory. This work was performed by Lindberg in Weiss - Lute Music, Vol. 2 (BIS 1534). Rosy composed mainly "Suites" with dances. Manuscript scores of his vast and highly creative works, combining the French "free and unrestrained style (Style brise)" and the Italian "cantabile" style, are preserved in archives in the Czech Republic and other countries. recorded in September 2018 at the Lenna Church in Nortelje. Lindberg plays a seven- or eight-course instrument made in Augsburg around 1590, the same instrument used in Sixtus Rauwolf's Lute (BIS SA 2265), which features music from Baroque Germany and France.
