He is best known for his unique and appealing compositions that combine the concise neo-classical style with the romantic compositional style of his father, David Monrad Johansen, and a creative style based on Norwegian folk songs. This album is a tribute to his career. It features works from 1959-1974, when he was organist at the Vålerenga Church in Oslo, as well as two important pieces from later years. The \"Prelude\" was composed on the basis of improvisation for the Norwegian Organ Book of 1977. The \"Fantasy for Organ\" was composed three years before Kvandahl's death. It combines the dissonance of \"modern\" music with the inspiration of folklore. Organist Arnfinn Tobiassen studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He is organist at the historic St. Olav's Church in Avalsnes on Karmøy Island in southern Norway.He is Artistic Director of the Norwegian Organ Festival from 2015 to 2019. He has recorded Tron H.F. Kverno's portrait album Credo (LWC1091) for LAWO Classics. Norwegian soprano Lina Johnson made her debut with the Royal Danish Opera House in Copenhagen in 2011 and sang for the first time with the Norwegian National Opera the following year. Her repertoire includes Bach's Passion, Handel's \"Messiah,\" and Orff's \"Carmina Burana,\" which she also performs in concert.
