Charles Mingus, the great bassist and composer who started his career in the early 1940's and laid the foundation of modern jazz with Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie. The Mingus Band toured Europe in the summer of 1972 and played a two-week long show at Ronnie Scotts in London, the final stop on their European tour.Recorded on August 14 and 15 during those performances, this is a tight, freewheeling live recording of the Mingus Sextet featuring Jon Faddis (tp), Charles McPherson (as), Bobby Jones (ts, cl), Jon Foster (p, vo), Roy Brooks (ds) and others. The live performance is recorded over two and a half hours, and includes a 35-minute passionate performance of "Fables of Governor Faubus" and "Nodin' Ya Head Blues," in which Roy Brooks shows off his music sawing skills. The high-octane blows of then 19-year-old Jon Faddis, now a jazz legend, are also astonishing. The recordings on this album were originally recorded on multi-track tapes for release as an album. The legendary tapes, which had been kept in storage without being officially released, are now finally being released as an official album on Resonance Records with the cooperation of Mingus' widow, Sue Mingus, and the Jazz Workshop.Co-produced by Zev Feldman and David Weiss, the album has been carefully remixed by Bill Smith of United Recording Company, George Clavin of Resonance, and Fran Gala, resulting in extremely high quality sound. The booklet includes an essay by British jazz critic Priestley, who actually heard the Mingus Band play at Ronnie Scotts at the time, as well as a number of other musicians, including Charles Mingus, Charles McPherson, Christian McBride, and Eddie Gomez. The book also includes interviews with musicians such as Charles Mingus, Charles McPherson, Christian McBride, and Eddie Gomez; writer and critic Fran Lebowitz, who was a close friend of the Minguses; and Mary Scott, widow of Ronnie Scott, who was a club owner, and many rare photographs. The book is of extremely high documentary value.

Tracklisting:

1.Introduction
2.Orange Was The Color Of Her Dress, Then Silk Blues
3.Noddin' Ya Head Blues
4.Air Mail Special
