Fuchs was the author of \"The Ladder to Mount Parnassus,\" a treatise on counterpoint in which the three great composers of the Viennese Classical School learned counterpoint, and served three generations of Holy Roman Emperors as their music director. The complete recording of his late masterpiece is now available from the leading musicians at the forefront of the European classical music scene. Born a quarter of a century before Bach and Handel, around the same time as A. Scarlatti, Purcell, and others, Fuchs was at the height of his activity from 1690 to 1710, but he was unable to attend the coronation of his lord in Prague in 1723 because of a leg disorder while writing \"Authority and Chastity. In 1726, he wrote \"Arianna's Crown\" to celebrate the queen's birthday, a kind of serenata in which five soloists sing beautifully and melodiously with a full orchestra and chorus that includes numerous woodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments. The masterful use of polyphony and the many effective writing techniques utilizing a variety of instruments are the supreme art of a master musician, and the music, which can be compared to the music of Vivaldi, Handel, and other composers of the time, is a strong indication that Fuchs was not a theoretical study school, but was always at the forefront of his field. The story is about a monster, the Minotaur. The story is about Arianna (Ariadne), who was left behind on the island of Naxos by Theseus, the hero who defeated the monster Minotaur, and is comforted by the god of wine, Bacco (Bacchos), while the prince Peleo and the sea nymph Teti are united (the constellation of the northern hemisphere, the Canis Major, is derived from the crown shown in the title of this work). In addition to the frontline singers of the scene, such as Kielant and Piccinini, and the dependable and sharp Zeffiro's old instrumental performance, we can count on the participation of the Schoenberg Choir, renowned for its history of collaboration with Arnoncourt. Together with the extensive commentary (in English, German, and Italian), this is a stimulating new recording that will make you want to revisit the history of Viennese music.
