At the memorial service held on September 27, the famous \"Requiem\" by Gilles, a master of the south of France whose popularity had not diminished even though more than half a century had passed since his death, was performed in a version of the score that had been modified by two great composers who were active at the Royal Academy of French Opera at the time. The Collegium Vocale Ghent and the Capriccio Stravagante, both choral ensembles of the master singer Herreweghe, will revive this rare version, which was completed earlier than the version arranged by Colette in the same year. This is a rich live performance worthy of the 250th anniversary of the composer's death, and is a masterful demonstration of the depth of French 18th-century music.
