This is the second album released in 1968 by the Magic Band led by Don Van Vleet a.k.a. Captain Beefheart. After the production of their debut album \"Save As Milk\", Jeff Cotton replaced Ry Cooder who left the band in 1967, and Bob Krasnow produced a new album called \"It Comes To You In A Plain Brown Wrapper\". It was produced by Bob Krasnow and entitled It Comes To You In A Plain Brown Wrapper. It was to be a two-disc set, consisting of an in-depth studio recording side and an avant-garde blues improvisation side by a fictional band called 25th Century Quaker. However, the album was rejected for release by Budda Records and was put on hold.Krasnow decided to have them record a replacement album for Blue Thumb Records, which he had established. This album was recorded in only eight days, without much time for rehearsals. The psychedelic and strange atmosphere of the previous album was retained, and the result is a wild avant-garde work with a hint of free jazz influence. It is also an important work in the sense that it leads to the next album, \"Trout Mask Replica,\" a double-disc epic that is also one of his best-known works. A mono version of \"Safe As Milk\" is included as a bonus track.
