This is the fourth SACD release of Furtwängler's masterpieces. This time it is dedicated as \"Two Ninths\" to the memory of René Tremine, the president of the Tara label. Schubert's \"Great\" is a session recording from December 1951, the same as the one released on SACD by DG (hard to find today). While originally a magnificent work, Furtwängler's performance doubles the grandeur of the work. The SACD re-mastering has expanded the separation of the instruments and the soundstage, and the result is superb. Of course, the energy of the climax is also increased, and you will be overwhelmed by the world Furtwängler has created. Beethoven's Ninth Symphony from the Lucerne Festival on August 22, 1954, which has recently been released on SACD on the Audite label.The finale is included here, but the Prague label's unique mastering, which differs from Audite's, shines through.
