Since then, new recordings of hers have been released from time to time; each time, she would garner attention only to fade from the spotlight again, but with her debut on ECM, her fan base is likely to grow exponentially. For this album, she has selected works by Prokofiev, Metner, and Chopin—pieces that are, in a sense, very “pianistic.” Yet her performance remains highly distinctive; she begins by drawing the listener into the vivid, elusive world of Prokofiev’s “Fleeting Illusions.” Even in Metner’s evocative “Fairy Tale,” a unique narrative unfolds that goes beyond a mere fairy tale.
