Composer and conductor Igor Markevich met Diaghilev at the Paris Opera in December 1928. He was 16 years old. Diaghilev was always looking for new ballet music and thought he had found a composer who could give him a score for the next season of the Ballets Russes. He commissioned Markevich to write a piano concerto as a test piece, which was conducted by Roger Desormier in London on July 15, 1929, to great success. Diaghilev's unexpected death a month later left the next planned work of the Ballets Russes unfinished. Markevich was greatly impressed by, and influenced by, Diaghilev, and had great admiration for him. This 180g 3-LP analog set, released in addition to the \"150th Anniversary of Sergei Diaghilev's Birth - Ballets Russes\" (22CD) box set, is a reissue of the LP box that was planned by Walter Legg, a famous producer of EMI, and recorded under Markevich's direction in 1954, 25 years after Diaghilev's death. The three-LP box set is a reissue of the LP box that was originally recorded in 1954, 25 years after Diaghilev's death. The cover is reproduced in the box with an original illustration specially designed at the time by Natalia Goncharova, one of the famous set painters of the Ballets Russes. The accompanying 32-page booklet includes many historical photographs and costume sketches, notes by Markevich in English and French from 1954, and a short excerpt from \"Le Ballet\" by Diaghilev's scriptwriter Boris Kovno. As the sound quality is most appropriate for the reproduction of this album, several masters were used and cutting attempts were made, resulting in the use of sound sources remastered in 1995 and 1997.
