The Human Fear\" is produced by Mark Ralph, who also produced their 2013 album \"Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action\". It is an upbeat masterpiece that instantly grabs the listener's attention and makes them feel positive about life, unabashedly pushing forward in its own unique style and bursting with Franz-ness. Recorded at AYR Studios in Scotland, all 11 songs on The Human Fear allude to the fears that lie deep within us and how overcoming and embracing those fears can move and define our lives. From its earliest days of underground parties in the ruins of Glasgow, Franz Ferdinand has developed its own style with a transcendent perspective: fresh, unfaded, forward-looking, art-school-ish, but with a love of big songs. The Human Fear is definitely in this tradition. Individualistic yet new, musically and creatively, the record portrays a band pushing forward. Before entering the studio, they had written almost all of the songs. The idea was to have the songbook ready before they started recording, and to put it into action as soon as they entered the studio. Many of the songs were recorded live with the band in the room, and many of the vocals on the album are original takes. This album is the first studio album with Audrey Tate and Dino Bardot as members, as well as the first album with Julian Corey, who joined the band in 2017 and participated in the writing and creative process with Alex Kapranos and Bob Hardy. As a band that values aesthetics and style as much as sound, this importance is reflected in the cover artwork inspired by the self-portrait \"7 Twists\" by Hungarian artist Dora Maurer. What made Maurer's work so appealing was what they wanted from their music: a vivid improvisation that could not be ignored, combined with a depth and fragility that would withstand repeated listening. Perhaps this is a collection of songs about fear, perhaps it is a collection of songs that prove that the iconic bands of our time continue their unquestioned living legacy.
