The king of the waltz and the king of operetta, J. Strauss II, passed away in 1899. But his passing did not end the golden age of operetta. The Viennese public loved the genre, which was full of snappy dialogue and parody, and many composers devoted themselves to supplying quality productions. Oskar Strauss (1870-1954) is one such composer. He took Wagner's great work "The Ring of the Nibelung" and turned it into a brilliant satire. The opera was originally filled with power and lust, but Strauss's version here further accelerates this trend. The opera is a one-hour long song about how "as long as you have money, things will be all right"? It is a work that is quite understandable. Naxos Japan
