The band's name is derived from the concept \"DE-EVOLUTION = de-evolution\/degeneration,\" which also means that society is regressing rather than progressing. This concept was actually a reaction to the shocking shooting at Kent State University in 1970, which they witnessed. Starting out in their hometown of Akron, Ohio, they gained support from icons such as David Bowie and Iggy Pop, earned a deal with Warner Bros. Records, and soon after recorded their debut album with legendary producer Brian Eno, In 1978, he made his debut with the album \"Q: ARE WE NOT MEN? Although this album was overlooked by the mainstream music scene, it succeeded in attracting tremendous attention in the underground scene.A year later, in 1979, they released their second album, \"Duty Now for the Future,\" and their third album, \"Freedom of Choice,\" in 1980, which included the hit song \"Whip It,\" earned them a platinum disc. The album was a platinum disc, finally achieving mainstream success and making a name for themselves worldwide. The music video for \"Whip It\" became a huge hit on MTV and was a major factor in establishing Divo's status in the 1980s. The band continued to produce hits such as \"Beautiful World\" and \"That's Good,\" and released a series of memorable albums, including 1981's NEW TRADITIONALIST, 1982's OH NO! in 1984, and \"TOTAL DEVO\" in 1988.After 1990's \"SMOOTH NOODLE MAPS,\" they took a long hiatus to work on films and television shows, but returned in 2010 with \"SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY. Today, Divo's innovative sound and thought-provoking performances are greatly acclaimed as a major influence on a diverse generation of artists playing new wave, industrial, and electronic sounds. 50 YEARS OF DE-EVOLUTION 1973-2023\" contains not only the main tracks from all nine of their studio albums, but also the 1974 demo of \"I'm A Potato,\" the singles \"Come Back Jonee,\" \"Snowball,\" \" What We Do\" are also included, and the album is a perfect testament to the band's legacy.
