Description:

Nelsons, who has been in demand all over the world, will perform his specialty "New World" with his mentor Jansons' army, the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks! Andris Nelsons is one of the most sought-after young conductors in the world, having been appointed Chief Conductor and the 12th Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra at the young age of 29, and will become the 15th Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra in the 2013/2014 season. In this video, he performs with the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, of which his mentor Jansons is the principal conductor, featuring Dvořák's Symphony No. 9 "From the New World" and works by American composers Ives and John Adams, as well as his specialty, Stravinsky. The New World" is a work that Nelsons performs frequently, as it was included in the 2010 program with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the 2013 program with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, and the 2012 recording with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra has been released as a CD.This video was recorded at a concert held in December 2010. The strings and woodwinds sing with plenty of energy, the brass is brilliant and gorgeous, and the performance is truly youthful, energetic, and unique. Ives' "Unanswered Questions" is written in five parts for strings with four flutes, trumpet, and soft keys. This orchestral work uses innovative techniques, such as the theme of "The Eternal Question of Existence," which is played repeatedly by the trumpet amidst the echoes of silence. And post-minimalist composition John Adams' "Slonimsky's Iarbox," based on Stravinsky's "The Nightingale Song," is an orchestral work that combines standard minimalism with more complex minimalist compositional techniques. It was dedicated to Russian-American music critic Nicholas Solonimsky. Its Stravinsky's "The Nightingale Song," set in China, is a colorful and vibrant performance of oriental sounds.
