At that time, record companies had only just begun the transition from monaural to stereo recording. Under these circumstances, this Beethoven cycle was recorded in monaural and released as individual albums for each work. Later, in the 1970s, a master tape of the “Ninth Symphony” recorded in stereo was discovered. First, an overseas LP version was released as part of EMI’s budget series “Classics for Pleasure,” and subsequently, Toshiba EMI in Japan independently produced a four-disc set (compared to the two-disc overseas version) and released it.\nMeanwhile, while a stereo CD version was released domestically, the imported CD versions—including those included in that highly acclaimed complete collection box set—strangely featured the monaural version. Incredibly, this material never saw the light of day until Testament’s current release. Thus, Testament has brilliantly revived these master tapes, which had been “sealed away” overseas for many years, using their renowned advanced remastering technology.\nA new light shines upon this legendary performance, a magnificent fusion of the rich, aromatic tone of the French orchestras of yesteryear and Schuricht’s orthodox approach.\nThe recording took place at the “Salle Wagram,” which served as EMI’s (EMI\/PATHÉ-MARCONI) Paris recording headquarters from the 1950s onward. In addition to Callas’s legendary performances, the venue is renowned for the numerous masterful recordings left behind by 20th-century giants such as François, Karajan, and Bernstein. It is still fresh in our memory that Yutaka Sado, who has close ties to Bernstein, recorded “Bernstein: Selected Works” [WPCS-11662] (2001) with the Orchestre du Concert Lamoureux, which was based at this very hall. It is truly one of the most important halls in the history of classical music, and the rich resonance captured on this disc is well worth listening to.\n\nNaturally, this is its first-ever international CD release! This highly anticipated album—please be sure to hear its true value for yourself!\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Testament","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":46396430418209,"sku":"749677140922","price":22.95,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0568\/8482\/2076\/files\/749677140922.jpg?v=1692379948","url":"https:\/\/cdsvinyljapan.com\/en-at\/products\/749677140922","provider":"CDs Vinyl Japan Store","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
