Swedish mezzo-soprano Ivonne Fuchs and pianist Anna Christensson have been working as a Lieder duo for many years. They wondered if there might be an approach that would bring the traditional genre of song to life in the modern age. They asked Svante Henryson (1963-), a versatile composer and cellist, to compose a collection of songs that would connect with Schubert's "Winterreise". Henryson chose a poem by Faraj Bayrakdal, which he said inspired him, and with a Swedish translation by Jasim Mohamed, he composed "Mirror of the Absence," a collection of songs with intense rhythms and melodies derived from art music, rock, and jazz. Bayrakdar Faraj Bayrakdar (1951-), Syrian journalist, writer, and poet, was arrested in 1987 on charges of participating in illegal communist activities.In 2005, "Prisoner in Cell 13 )" relocated to Sweden, where he has taken up a new writing career.
