Guarnieri met poet and musicologist Mario de Andrade in 1928 and shared Andrade's idea of \"Brazilian Modern Art,\" an attempt to reflect traditional Brazilian music in a classical style. The work is colored with a folkloric atmosphere, as if it were a direct embodiment of Andrade's ideal of \"the inheritance of Brazilian music\" after he passed away in 1945. Incidentally, \"choro\" is a style of Brazilian popular music, and Guarnieri thought it possible to replace the \"concerto\" with a \"choro. The \"celesta,\" which uses a variety of instruments including the piano, is also a type of choro. A flute \"choro\" with a classical idiom using a harpsichord, and a lyrical \"choro\" with a solo bassoon, which became his last work. All are experimental, yet brilliantly colored with Brazilian inspiration.
